History of Indian Postal Stamps
The date goes back to 1852 because this was the year when the first stamp was issued by Sir Bartie Frere in the British India. In 1854, stamps with a picture of Queen Victoria came out and used for several years. The first pictorial stamp in India was issued in 1931 in New Delhi. The stamp was created with ink and paper. On 21st Nov, 1947, India issued its first Free India stamp, which has the Indian Flag in it. In the next year, stamps of Mahatma Gandhi were issued. Since then, there have been many postal stamps that were issued by the Government of India.
